Portables  Our most popular models are by HYT, ICOM, and Motorola. Each has some unique feature or capability that makes it especially well suited for a particular function or purpose. For Low Band users, the best choice is from Motorola. ICOM is our choice for traditional VHF and UHF and also the HYT TC-610 for UHF radios. We like ICOM for P25 digital and our absolute favorite is the ICOM 6.25 kHz digital radio. Low Band 30-50 MHz Portables  The Motorola HT750 is, in our opinion, the ONLY choice for an affordable low band (30-50 MHz) radio with good quality, performance and a reasonable price. We are not permitted to advertise pricing on Motorola branded products on the Internet, but we can tell you that the HT750 is comparably priced with other VHF and UHF radios offered by other manufacturers. VHF Band 150-174 MHz Portables  The ICOM F3061 is our personal choice for commercial outdoor communications. The F3061 is a top quality analog radio that can be upgraded to 6.25 kHz digital when desired. Priced at only $459, the F3061 can be upgraded to full digital capability at any time for just $225. The ultimate radio is the ICOM F70D, a P25 digital radio capable of operating in either analog or digital mode at 25 or 12.5 kHz with full compatibility with radios operated by the US Forest Service and other US government agencies. UHF Band 450-470 MHz Portables  The HYT TC-610 is an ideal radio for both indoor plant and outdoor use. With up to 16 channel radio and wash and wear capability, this is a radio designed for harsh environments, yet it is affordably priced at just $308, even less in quantity. The top of the top of the line in analog radios is the ICOM F60V, a radio that can take the roughest use. It's MIL-SPEC F rated, submersible for up to 30 minutes at 3 feet, and is optionally available with an Intrinsically Safe rating. MDC-1200 digital signaling is standard as is 2-tone paging encode and decode. Selectable audible or vibrate alerting and it can even record and playback incoming messages. The DTR650 can best be described as a Nextel without monthly airtime charges for on-site use not requiring telephone capability. You can have private calls, group calls, privacy, text messaging, and outstanding digital voice clarity for about the same price as an ordinary analog radio. Intrinsically Safe Portables Intrinsically safe or FM Approved radios are often required in explosive atmospheres. Most portable radios do not have this capability although it is optionally available on the ICOM F60U, and F80D. There is ONE radio that is built specifically for applications requiring intrinsically safe certification. That radio is the Motorola EX-560.XLS. This micro-sized full powered radio is available for both VHF and UHF. You simply have to see it to appreciate the capabilities and features of this totally unique personal communicator. In essence, trunking provides better utilization of frequencies, privacy, and enhanced user features. All radios are not capable of trunking operation.
